Private Training & Behavior Consultations

Schedule a private consultation with Skye Poitras, the Salt Lake area's ONLY certified canine behavior consultant! (Check out www.ccpdt.org to find out more about the certification for CBCCs - Certified Behavior Consultant - Canine). Private training consultations are available for dogs and puppies any age for any training or behavioral issue. Training sessions can be held in your home or at Skye's Dog Training's facility in West Jordan. Consultations can cover such topics as:

  • Behavioral issues: aggression, anxiety, destructive behavior, house training, barking, digging, separation anxiety, resource guarding, dog reactivity and fearfulness. Skye's Dog Training specializes in fear, aggression and anxiety issues and can work with you to build an effective behavior modification plan.
  • Basic cues: sit, down, stay, watch me, come, off, quiet, wait, drop it, go to your bed, and leave it (to name a few!).
  • Dog manners: food stealing & counter surfing, jumping up, self-control, door & car manners, walking on leash, chewing, and acceptable attention seeking behaviors.
  • Fun tricks: shake, roll-over, back it up, spin, bow, hula hoop jumping, and the "leave your treat on your paw" trick as well as ideas for toys and games.
  • Puppy Right Start: Get your puppy off on the right foot by being fully prepared. You might even want a consultation before your puppy arrives home so you will be ready for success with house training, chewing and all those other puppy challenges.

Location/Travel Details: Private consultations are held either in your home, at your desired location (park, store, etc.) or at Skye's Dog Training facility (indoor, climate controlled) in West Jordan just off I-215 Redwood Road exit (your choice). For in-home training or on location (parks, etc.) sessions, a $30 travel fee applies to anywhere in the greater Salt Lake area including Salt Lake City, Draper, Sandy, Cottonwood, Holladay, Millcreek, Sugarhouse, Murray, Midvale, West Jordan, South Jordan, Taylorsville, Riverton, West Valley, Downtown, Avenues, etc. Consultations held outside the greater Salt Lake area will include a $45/hr travel fee.

Since there is no travel fee for consultations held at Skye's Dog Training facility, most clients choose this neutral ground for observing the dog's behavior and working in a new environment. Specific details about the Skye's Dog Training facility location (including address and directions) can be found on the Facility Information page.

Private Training Rates:

Training sessions for basic puppy or dog manners and behavioral issues (such as house training, jumping, digging, food stealing, etc.) or obedience (commands, tricks, therapy training, etc.) are $95 per hour. Training sessions may last anywhere from 1-2 hours depending on number of issues and owner's preference.

Aggression and anxiety issues (such as aggression with people or dogs, separation anxiety, fearful behavior, etc.) require a two hour initial session which will include a detailed evaluation and behavior modification plan. Cost for the two hour initial session is $220 (a $95 deposit is due upon registration to reserve spot, remaining amount due the day of the session). Follow-up sessions are often not needed for these issues since you will have the training plan to work with the dog on your own after the session, but they are an option if desired.

All follow-up sessions (any issue, including anxiety/aggression) are $95 per hour.

There is no extra charge for multiple dogs from the same household sharing a training session.

Evaluations requiring write-ups (for rescues, court cases, etc.) are $120 and include a 30-45 minute evaluation plus write-up.
